Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Michel

Professor Dr.-Ing. habil. Peter Michel studied general mechanical engineering at Paderborn University with a particular focus on polymer engineering. From 1983 to 1992, he was with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering's department Kunststofftechnik Paderborn (KTP), initially as a research associate and then later on as chief engineer, under Professor Potente, who also supervised his PhD thesis on polymer welding issues. In the course of his industrial career, during which Dr. Michel held various senior positions, he focused on the topics extrusion blow molding and welding, polymers in the construction industry, synthetic fibers/monofilaments and plastic materials used in cars. Dr. Michel moved to the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials, Halle (Saale) in April 2013, where he now heads the Polymer Processing division. He was appointed professor for polymer processing at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences on 1 March 2014. Today, Professor Michel is considered a proven expert for polymer-based light construction in the automotive industry.
